HBRA Plant List History
The Buford Park Plant List was begun in the
late 1980's by Tom Pringle as one of many plant lists in his Emerald
Data Base for botanical areas throughout the state. In the early
90's Mari Baldwin took over responsibility for maintenance of
the list. Over the years since then many people have contributed
to make the plant list what it is today. These include: Dave Wagner,
Rhoda Love, Ethen Perkins, Bruce Newhouse, Dick Brainerd, Dave
Predeek, Lynda Boyer, Jason Blazar, John Koenig and probably others
not remembered.
Several years ago, Jason Blazar converted the list from a Mac
Works format to Windows Excel. John Koenig and Lynda Boyer took
on the task of updating nomenclature and consolidating individual
plant lists (from numerous field trips to the park) as well as
incorporating the Arboretum plant list into the master Excel file.
The Arboretum list was created by Dave Wagner, Rhoda Love, Gail
Baker (and probably others) as well as Salix Associates (Bruce
Newhouse and Dick Brainerd). Salix was contracted by the Arboretum
to update their species list. Also, members of the Native Plant
Society, Emerald Chapter, contributed several inventory days on
both the east and west sides of the park which added many contributions
to the list. Ed Alverson and Tom Locasio also contributed information
about rare native plants and founder populations of exotic weeds.
