1.  NATIVE PLANT NURSERY WORKPARTY:
We'll start with a brief tour of our nursery where harvest of the native seed is crop is in full swing.  This site produces over 100 pounds of seed every year to help enhance the native plant community at Buford Park.  Then we'll split into teams and work on separating the seed from the chaff.  The trick is figuring out the right technique for each type of seed.  Join the fun!

Two shifts available, 9 to 10:30 and 10:30 to noon on Saturday, August 1st.  Meet at the FBP booth near event Admissions 5 minutes before each shift.  Suitable for kids age 8 and up WITH ADULT.

2.  WEED SEED REMOVAL WORKPARTY
Invasive weeds are one of the biggest ongoing threats to the natural environment at Buford Park.  The Friends have a successful ongoing program using volunteers to contain and control weeds on the park. This workparty involves a simple activity - removing the seeds from an invasive grass before they mature and start new weeds!  We'll take a very short hike into the woods and quickly learn to identify this particular grass called "false brome" growing in distinct patches. We'll clip the seedheads off, collect them, and bag them for disposal.

Due to uneven terrain and off-trail conditions, SHOES and PANTS are recommended.  Absolutely NO FLIP-FLOPS for safety reasons.  This workparty runs Saturday morning from 10 to noon.  Meet at the FBP booth near event admissions 5 minutes before the start time. Suitable for children old enough to handle sharp tools WITH ADULT.
