Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah will celebrate twenty years of improving trails,  habitats and health at our public Fall Celebration on Thursday, October 8 at 6:30 pm in the ballroom of the Veterans Memorial Building, 1626 Willamette St., Eugene. 

Founded in 1989, Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah works to protect native ecosystems and compatible recreation n the Mt. Pisgah area.  Much of their work is on Lane County’s Howard Buford Recreation Area (aka Mt. Pisgah).  The community of volunteers and supporters and park visitors are rejuvenating in body and spirit by visiting and helping care for the 2300-acre park.

Keynote speaker Carolyn Scott Kortge, cancer survivor and author of The Spirited Walker shares her story of how walking frequently on the trails
of Mt. Pisgah “guided her through treatment and recovery with affirmations that gave validity to the metaphors of taking one step at a time, moving forward,
and maintaining balance.”

Derek Johnson, Director of Protection for The Nature Conservancy, and lead negotiator on the 1,200-acre Wildish Land Acquisition, will emcee the event. Executive Director Chris Orsinger will provide a brief reflection of 20 years of park enhancements and accomplishments. 

Music by The Nettles, “Celtic with a Kick!” Sponsored by SureCrop Farm Services and Pleasant Hill Nursery, this event is open to the public, with a $5 to $25 suggested donation at the door. Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah’s mission is to protect and enhance native ecosystems and ompatible recreation in the Mt. Pisgah area.
