Service and Volunteer Opportunities

Many opportunities are available for you to assist in our efforts.  Read below to see what fits your interest! Contact Val Rogers, volunteer coordinator, for more details on service and volunteer opportunities.

  • INVASIVE PLANT REMOVAL

Blackberry, Scotch Broom, Thistles, and a non-native invasive grass called False Brome all threaten the health of Buford Park’s native habitats. People protect the park by removing these plants so the native plants and wildlife can thrive. Join regularly scheduled workparties or schedule a special workparty for a group. This is an invigorating activity that always produces a sense of accomplishment. Training and supervision provided.

  • NATIVE PLANT NURSERY
  • This facility at Buford Park produces native plants and seed to enhance areas where weeds have been removed.  Help with seasonal propagation and maintenance operations including planting, irrigation, weeding, harvesting, seed processing and sales. Observe and learn to identify dozens of native plants in different stages of development. Join regularly scheduled workparties or schedule a special workparty for a group. Training and supervision provided.
  • TRAIL SYSTEM

Good trails are essential to people’s ability to enjoy the park without damaging fragile resources.  FBP plans, builds, and maintains selected trails in Buford Park.  Most fieldwork occurs in the fall through spring when the ground is soft.  Trail work is vigorous and can involve moving gravel, digging trenches, handling large rocks and using sharp tools.  These are great projects for motivated groups who want to make a lasting difference.  Join regularly scheduled workparties or schedule a special workparty for a group.  Training, tools and supervision provided.

  • PLANTING PROJECTS

Give native plants a boost in the park!  FBP has active restoration projects ongoing in several of the park’s different habitats including floodplains, prairies, and oak and conifer forests.  Plantings may include trees, shrubs, wildflowers or grasses. Join regularly scheduled workparties or schedule a special workparty for a group.  Training, plants, tools and supervision provided.
